Effects of Fragmentation on Forest Dynamics in Gishwati-Mukura National Park, Rwanda

Austin Dziki
The effects of forest fragmentation is of global concern with 1/3 of global forest cover lost due to modern human activity activity. The status of the remaining forest areas are not at all certain as they are subjected to many intersecting ecological effects from nearby deforestation. 70% of the current forest cover is within 1 km of an edge. This study examines the effect such edges have on forest dynamics in a large forest fragment in Rwanda by comparing forest inventory data across a 10 year time period.
